¼¼ø¸²
Abstract
This study was to identify the practice of pain severity and its management of terminal cancer patient. The subjects were 45 cancer patients who admitted at oncology ward and registered at home care center in one hospital from December, 2001 to June, 2002. The collect d data yore analysed by descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation using the SPSS PC 10.0 program.
Care-givers were spouse, daughter an daughter in law and took care of patients almost all day long. Patients were satisfied of their caring.
Pain having patients was occurred at one site that was abdominal part.. Average score of pain severity was 5.00 a day. The score of the worst pain severity for the last 24 hours was 7.00.
The score of pain relief was 57.33 and the score of patient satisfaction on pain relief was 5.92 after treatment.
Their scores of interferences with daily activity due to pain as activity of daily life, walking, sleep, mood and interpersonal relationship were 5.00 or more in all.
Patients administered twice a day by parental medication were distributed of the highest percentile. Patients administered by non parental medication were distributed equivalently from once to three times a day.
There was significantly positive correlation between mean pain and the worst pain(r=.56). The relationship of mean pain and satisfaction of pain relief after treatment was negatively shown(r=-.32). Correlations between mean pain and variables of interference of daily activities were shown as the range from r=.37 to r=.68 respectively.
According to the findings of this study, cancer patient in terminal phase had middle level of pain and low level of satisfaction about treatment for pain relief although they had gotten analgesic medication. So that explained inappropriate pain management. Also parients were more likely to experience interferences of daily activities.
Thus the nurse needs to develop the care strategies for assessment and management of cancer pain, then Study on effect of the care is needed.
